The World Gravy Wrestling Championship is an annual event held in the village of Stacksteads, Lancashire, England. The first championship was held in 2007.
Bouts last two minutes, and participants wrestle in a shallow pool filled with "Lancashire Gravy". The event is a fundraiser for the East Lancashire Hospice, which provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses. The gravy used in the competition is donated by local businesses.
Competitors must wear fancy dress, and points are awarded for comedy effect, entertainment value, and wrestling ability. The winner of each category is crowned the World Gravy Wrestling Champion.
The World Gravy Wrestling Championship is a popular event, attracting hundreds of spectators each year. It has been featured in national and international media, and has been described as "one of the world's craziest culinary competitions".
The 2023 World Gravy Wrestling Championship was held on August 28th at the Rose 'N' Bowl in Stacksteads, with Ant McGinley AKA the Ginger Ninja, the star of award-nominated comedy podcast, Wrestling with The Champ, as one of the contestants.
